A new design award for innovative and cutting edge architecture in the Highlands and Islands was launched by the IAA at the new Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre on 7th March 2008.
The IAA want to recognise and celebrate local projects that express Highlands and Islands identity and culture.
"This is an exciting new project that we hope will raise the profile of the work of smaller architect practices in the Highlands and Islands.
"Good design is not just about high profile public buildings, in this area there are also some outstanding examples of top quality architecture on a smaller and more intimate scale.
The Inverness Architectural Association are pleased to acknowledge the help and assistance received from our project partners in the delivery of the IAA Design Awards; RIAS, Forestry Commission Scotland, Bord Na Gaidhlig, HIE.
Chaidh duais dhealbhaidh ùr airson ailtireachd innleachdach agus ùr-nodha sa Ghàidhealtachd is sna h-Eileanan a chur air bhog leis an Comann Ailtireachd Inbhir Nis (IAA) aig Ionad ùr Luchd-tadhail aig Blàr Chùil-lodair, an 7 Màrt 2008.
Iarr an IAA pròiseactan ionadail a tha a’ nochdadh dearbh-aithne is cultar na Gàidhealtachd is nan Eilean aithneachadh agus a chomharrachadh.
"Is e pròiseact ùr sgoinneil a tha seo agus tha sinn an dòchas gun tog sinn ìomhaigh obair nan ionadan ailtireachd as lugha sa Ghàidhealtachd is sna h-Eileanan.
Chan ann a-mhàin mu dheidhinn toglaichean poblach àrd-inbhe a tha deagh dhealbhadh; san sgìre seo tha sàr-eisimpleirean de dh’ailtireachd àrd-inbhe a’ nochdadh air sgèile nas lugha cuideachd.
Tha Comann Ailtireachd Inbhir Nis toilichte aithne a thoirt don chuideachadh a fhuair iad bho na com-pàirtichean duaisean againn; RIAS, Forestry Commission Scotland, Bord Na Gaidhlig, HIE.
There will be six local awards events, covering the following areas:
- Shetland and Orkney;
- Caithness and Sutherland;
- Skye and Lochalsh and Wester Ross and Lochaber;
- Inverness and Easter Ross, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey;
- Moray;
- Western Isles.
An overall regional awards ceremony for the Highlands and Islands will follow these.
Award categories are:
- New building – domestic / public / commercial / community
- New life for old buildings
- Details – internal spaces
- Place making – external spaces / relationship with context
- Lost opportunities
- Best building in the Highlands and Islands
- Best use of timber

- Moireibh;
- Eilean Siar.
