Found in the Landscape

Free event: WIAG Exhibition and Design Seminar “Found in the Landscape”

An Lanntair Auditorium, 5 Oct 2010, Stornoway

Following 6 months of consultation and discussion, the Comhairle's Outer Hebrides New House Design Guide is to be launched. The guide will give the Comhairle's advice on the location, siting and design for new houses in the Outer Hebrides. To launch the new Guide, and encourage further early engagement with the Planning Service, the Comhairle is hosting an event on Tuesday 5 October in An Lanntair at 9:30am - a day of presentations, themed seminars and exhibits, from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, the Scottish Government and the Western Isles Architects' Group (WIAG)

The morning session will include presentations from the Comhairle and the Scottish Government on the development of the Design Guide, a Question and Answer session and words from Jim Mackinnon, Scotland's Chief Planner. There will also be a presentation on and launch of a Kit House Redesign project undertaken by Scotframe in partnership with the Scottish Government and Proctor and Matthews Architects.

Keynote speakers will be Pete and Christine Hope on 'Building the Dream' - the couple who self built the Black Sheep House which won Grand Designs Live in 2008 and will provide a fascinating insight into their experience. There will also be a 'taster' exhibition of local architects' work, which will be showing for the rest of the week in the upstairs gallery of the Woodlands Centre.
